Keep Your Bourbonnais, Bradley, Manteno and Kankakee Basements Dry this Spring
Spring has finally arrived and with that we all know that "April showers bring May flowers". Here are a couple tips to keep your basement dry this Spring.
- Check your gutters. It is important to make sure your gutters are not clogged before the Spring rains come. If your gutter system is not working properly this can cause water to collect or flow along your foundation and can enter your basement through cracks. Also make sure your downspouts are directing water down and away from your home.
- Ensure that your sump pump and battery back up are working, chances are, it has been several months since they have been used. Check power cords and clean out the sump or inlet screen if necessary. Dump a bucket of water into the sump area, enough to raise the float to make sure that the pump comes on and works properly. Check the outside discharge pipe as well to make sure it is clear and is directing the water away from the foundation.
Now is a good time to check your water back up coverage on your home policy. Contact HomeStar Insurance for more information on this valuable coverage.
